Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

I think we are all on the hunt for the perfect cookie recipe. There are many different flavors of cookies but I’m a Plain Jane when it comes to that. I love the classics, I don’t want everything and the kitchen sink cookies. Other foods it’s the same, just give me the ingredients at their best, don’t cover them up with a sauce or spices that cancel out the ingredient so you are not even tasting what you’re eating. I want to taste the chicken not guess what protein it is. Different flavors should be added to enhance the foundation of whatever it is that you’re making. Let the star be the star and the flavor be the icing on the cake.

Before you dive in here are a few notes to make sure you’re on the right track for amazing cookies.

Notes:

  1. Brown Butter. To brown butter it truly is simple. Using browned butter adds this depth of flavor and richness to your cookies vs regular butter. This is the most time consuming step so plan ahead because not only do you have to brown the butter but you have to let it set afterwards.
  2. Silicone Mat. I use a silicone baking mat when baking things you need not to stick. While there is the brand Silpat this Amazon brand works just as great and is half the price. Amazon Silicone Baking Mat
  3. Measuring Flour. While using a scale to measure weight would be the most precise just make sure each cup is very level, we don’t want our cookies too floury.
  4. Chocolate Chips. I eyeball the amount instead of following a hard cup number. Just see what it looks like once you add the chips and fold them in. It’s a pick your own adventure type situation.
  5. Cook Time. The cooking time can change because everyone’s oven is different. Some cook hotter than the temperature it’s set for and some cook cooler. Again uses your eyes and feel for cookie doneness. Also under baking your cookies kind of makes them that much better! I mean who doesn’t love a gooey cookie?

Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Oven Temp: 375 °
Prep Time: 1 hour
Cook Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
Yield: Roughly 30 medium Cookies

Ingredients:
1 1/4 cup of Butter
3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
1 cup firmly packed Brown Sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp Vanilla
2 3/4 cups of Flour, measured precisely
1/2 Salt
2 tsp Baking Soda
2 cups Semisweet Chocolate Chips

Directions

1. Brown the butter in a saucepan, stirring constantly over low heat, until foamy and a deep honey color. Butter will have a nutty smell to it. Once browned, pour into mixing bowl and put in the fridge to cool until room temperature and set.

2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease baking sheets or line with a silicone mat.

3. Once butter has set, cream together with both sugars, eggs and vanilla. Roughly 3 minutes, until mixture is pale and fluffy.

4. Add flour, baking soda and salt until just mixed together (don’t over mix the dough). Stir in chocolate chips with spoon.

5. Take an ice cream scoop to scoop dough. Shape each dough scoop into round balls, add chocolate chips to the top for that picture perfect cookie. Bake for 8-10 minutes.

6. Once removed from oven take the pan with both hands and slam against the counter a couple times. Doing this helps flatten cookies and creates those nice edge wrinkles with that crispy goodness. Cool cookies on baking sheet for a couple minutes then transfer to cooling rack to set.

7. ENJOY ALL THE COOKIES!
